Staying Safe While Driving

  • When driving to a delivery destination, your personal safety is important. In this topic, you will learn things like where you should and shouldn’t park the vehicle you’re driving, what to do if you’re being followed, and why you should always lock your vehicle when you get out to make a delivery.

    • Questions (level 1, 2, 3)

    • Video module

  • This topic is currently available in English.

    1. Make sure your vehicle is in good working order, so your vehicle doesn’t break down and leave you stranded alone.

    2. When driving, pay attention to any vehicles that may be following you as they could intend to rob you.

    3. If you are being followed, call your workplace, and explain the situation. Give a description of the driver and the type of vehicle they’re driving in case they need to make a police report.

    4. If you are being followed, do not make the delivery. Keep driving to the nearest safe location, or go back to your store. If you feel you are in immediate danger, call the police.

    5. When stopping to make a delivery, park as close as possible to the entrance of the delivery destination or park under a streetlight, especially if it’s dark outside.

    6. Avoid parking in isolated areas or areas that are not well-lit. This will help you see your surroundings and help others see you.

    7. When leaving your vehicle, always lock your car, and take your keys with you, so no one can steal your vehicle or products, or get in without you seeing them.

Staying Safe when Making Deliveries

  • When you stop to make a delivery, it’s important to be able to identify situations that could put your safety at risk, and what you should do in the moment to help protect yourself.

    • Questions (level 1, 2, 3)

    • Video module

  • This topic is currently available in English

    1. If there are no lights on at a delivery address, stay in your car, and call the customer. Ask them to turn on some lights both inside and outside, so you can safely see where you’re going.

    2. Be aware of any suspicious people hanging around the delivery address, as they may intend to rob you. If you feel unsafe, do not make the delivery. Drive to a safe place, and call your employer to explain the situation.

    3. When making a delivery, you should never walk behind a dark building, or be called away from plain view by anyone. To help keep yourself safe, stay in areas where you can clearly see your surroundings, and others can see you.

    4. To help reduce the chances of being robbed, don’t show others the cash you’re carrying during a transaction. You should never carry more cash than needed.

    5. If you feel that your safety is threatened when making a delivery, activate the panic alarm on your vehicle to help deter anyone trying to hurt or rob you. Only do this if you believe drawing attention to yourself would not compromise your safety.

    6. If you experience an emergency, go to a safe location, and call the police. Follow their instructions to help keep yourself safe.
