    1. A contribution is any amount of money that is placed into an account.

    2. A contribution limit is the maximum amount of money a person can put into their account in a certain timeframe. For example, the government sets contribution limits for 401(k) plans each year.

    3. An income limit is the maximum annual income one can earn in order to open or contribute to certain plans or accounts.

    4. Investment earnings are money that someone receives because there’s been an increase in value on their investments.

    5. Withdrawal means to take money out of an account.

    6. Qualified accounts are registered with the government and receive certain tax benefits when money is deposited in them. IRAs, Roth IRAs, and 401(k)s are all examples of qualified accounts.

    7. Tax bracket refers to the range of income someone receives and then relates to how much income tax they have to pay.

    8. Tax-deferred means that tax isn’t paid right away; instead, tax will be paid in the future, and likely at a better rate.
