    1. Everyone in the workplace must follow proper hand hygiene practices because it is one of the most effective ways of fighting the transmission of illnesses and germs in the work environment.

    2. When washing your hands, you must use both soap and water to effectively wash away germs.

    3. You must use clean, running water to wash your hands because standing bodies of water are open to contamination.

    4. You must wash your hands before and after eating, so you don’t infect yourself with germs or spread them to other work surfaces.

    5. You must wash your hands after contact with bodily fluids and waste, so you don’t spread germs to yourself or spread them to other work surfaces.

    6. When applying soap, interlock your fingers, and rub them together to make sure all areas of your hands and fingers are covered because germs can still reside in harder-to-reach areas.

    7. After applying soap to your hands, you need to scrub all areas of them for at least 20 seconds to effectively get most of the germs off your hands and into the soap.

    8. After applying and scrubbing your hands with soap, you must wash it off with clean, running water because the germs are now in the soap.

    9. After washing with soap and water, it is important to dry your hands on something clean, so any remaining germs you did not wash away do not spread from the moisture.

    10. You can use hand sanitizers as a supplementary part of the hand hygiene process, but not as a replacement. Hand sanitizers are not as effective as using water and soap.
