    1. Drop earrings hang just below the earlobe. They are typically stationary.

    2. Chandelier earrings are a type of dangle earrings with a shape that looks like a crystal chandelier. They're very narrow at the earlobe and then widen below. They are generally much larger than dangle earrings.

    3. Huggie earrings wrap around the earlobe and curve behind it, attaching with a back latch. They are like mini hoop earrings, but thicker.

    4. Stud earrings are small and sit tight to the earlobe. They don't drop down, loopback, or climb upward; they are like a pin with the face of the earring on top.

    5. Hoop earrings are traditionally circular, but they can be triangular, square-shaped, or oval-shaped. These earrings loop from the front of the earlobe to the back.

    6. Dangle earrings hang down below the earlobe. They can move more than a drop earring and generally swing from side-to-side.

Recommending Earrings Based on Face Shape

  • Since earrings sit so close to the face, they can draw attention to different features or highlight one’s facial structure. In this topic, you’ll learn which types of earrings to recommend for the six main face shapes so these popular accessories enhance your customer’s natural beauty.

    1. Oval face shapes work with almost every type of earring. Long or drop earrings balance face contours, while huggies and studs broaden the facial structure.

    2. Round faces work well with long or drop earrings because they elongate the face and bring balance to it. Chandelier earrings also help streamline the face. Avoid circular shaped earrings for round faces.

    3. Suggest hoop and drop earrings with a rounded bottom for a square face, because they will help soften the natural angles of the face.

    4. Rectangular or narrow faces pair best with wide or full earrings, like chandeliers, because it will make these thinner faces look fuller.

    5. Heart-shaped faces pair best with drop earrings with a rounded bottom because they reduce angles and make the chin look more rounded rather than pointed.

    6. Diamond face shapes will work well in most styles of earrings, like chandeliers, hoops, and delicate drop earrings. The more the earrings can move around, the more the cheekbones will be highlighted.
